Joe Biden delivers his “Soul of America” speech on September 1, 2022, in Philadelphia, PA.
“We are Republicans, and don’t propose to leave our party and identify ourselves with the party whose antecedents have been rum, Romanism, and rebellion. We are loyal to our flag.”
Dr. Samuel D. Burchard
This week, I was going to continue with my series on likening living under the Biden Regime to living under Queen Athaliah of Judah, another example of a usurper of power, and the lessons Christians can take from that Biblical account.
I say, I was going to continue with it this week, until Joe Biden came along and gave what is, in my opinion, probably the most disturbing and tyrannical speech ever given by an American President. Certainly, it’s the most disturbing and tyrannical speech I personally have ever heard from a man in that office.
In some ways, this piece really is a part of the series on Athaliah. But in my mind, the content of Biden’s speech is that I think it falls more naturally under the heading of another, recurring series of posts I’ve been writing called Rum, Romanism, and Rebellion (RR&R). The RR&R series attempts to link the socialist, authoritarian, anti-Constitutional, globalist ideas and corruption found so prevalently in the Democratic party with the fact that this same party is, and has been since well back into the 19th century, the political home of the papal Antichrist in the United States of America.
The fact that the Democrats were the party of Antichrist was recognized by writers in the 19th century, and most famously expressed by Presbyterian minister and Union Civil War veteran Dr. Samuel D. Burchard, who in 1884 uttered the line at the top of this post, calling the Democrats, “the party whose antecedents have been rum, Romanism, and rebellion.”
I have made this phrase - rum, Romanism, and rebellion – a feature on this blog because I believe it has a great deal of explanatory power in today’s world. Political commentators, when they discuss the role of religion in politics, if they discuss it at all, often simply ignore it. It’s almost as if they wish it didn’t matter, and by not discussing it, they hope to make sure that it doesn’t.
Others on the conservative side of things will sometimes speak of America as a “Judeo-Christian nation.” Which has always struck me as odd, because I have never in all my life met a Judeo-Christian.
But America was not founded as some secular state based on enlightenment ideas, as is commonly taught in schools. Neither is it nor has it ever been a Judeo-Christian nation, whatever that means. Neither was it the product of some general religious sentiments. America is, and always has been, a political expression of the Protestant Reformation. No Protestant Reformation. No United States of America. America is and always has been a Protestant republic.
That America is, and always has been, a Protestant republic is what makes the words of Joe Biden on Thursday, September 1, 2022, so shocking. There, right in front of historic Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Roman Catholic President Joe Biden essentially declared war on the Historic Protestant American Nation.
Here’s just a sample of what Biden said,
MAGA Republicans do not respect the Constitution, do not believe in the rule of law. They did not recognize the will of the people and refuse to accept the results of a free election.”
Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic. And now America must choose to move forward or to move backward. To build a future or obsess about the past. To be a nation of hope and unity and optimism or a nation of fear, division, and of darkness.
I agree Republicans have made their choice. They embrace anger. They thrive on chaos. They live not in the light of truth but in the shadow of lies.
MAGA forces are determined to take this country backwards, backwards to an America where there is no right to choose, no right to privacy, no right to contraception, no right to marry who you love [that is to say, Republicans think sodomy ought to be outlawed]. They promote authoritarian leaders and they fanned the flames of political violence that are a threat to our personal rights, to the pursuit of justice, the rule of law, the very soul of this country.
Michael Luttig, has called Trump and extreme MAGA Republicans a clear and present danger to our democracy.
It has been a thesis of mine for a long time that the corruption, immortality, socialism, and hatred for liberty, both political and economic, that is endemic in the Democratic party is the result of the takeover of that party effected by the Roman Catholic Church in the 19th century. It was during the 19th century that the Tammany Hall Democrats rose to power, and that power was concentrated in the hands of Roman Catholics.
Even an advocate of Roman Catholic power such as Terry Golway, author of Machine Made: Tammany Hall and the Creation of Modern American Politics, admitted in his book that election fraud was a specialty of Tammany Hall Democrats. He wrote, “Tammany’s Irish leaders, flowed though so many were, helped create modern government and urban politics. They did so…not simply by fixing elections, although the ballot was not sacrosanct, and not simply by appealing to voters’ worst instincts, although theatric demagoguery was a Tammany staple.”
Golway noted in his book that there were Protestant ministers who warned people at the time of Tammany’s Roman Catholic influence. He cited a pamphlet by Joseph Hartwell, a Protestant minister, titled What It Costs – Tammany Hall the Stronghold of Rome.
In 1928, the Democrats ran former New York Governor Al Smith as the first Roman Catholic major ticket Presidential Candidate. He lost to Herbert Hoover in that year’s election.
But Rome’s big breakthrough came in 1960 with the election of John F. Kennedy as America’s first Roman Catholic President. Kennedy’s election was not without controversy, with many at the time rightly being concerned about Kennedy’s Catholic faith making him more loyal to the Pope than to the Constitution. Today, such concerns are dismissed as the bigotry of a bygone era, but this is a mistake.
Here in 2022, we have a Roman Catholic President, one who openly quotes the Pope and visits him in Rome, one who openly hates the MAGA Republicans, which is just shorthand for white, Protestant voters, the core population of this nation, declaring war on them.
What makes Biden’s speech so disturbing, as awful as it was in isolation, is that it is part of a larger pattern of behavior. The Roman Catholic Biden – Biden attends a Jesuit-run parish in Washington D.C.; if you don’t believe me, just read this article from Jesuit America Magazine boasting about the President’s ties to the Jesuits – and the Democrats have attacked Republicans in general, and Trump supporters in particular since the Biden took office a year and a half ago. Just in the past two weeks, Biden has called Donald Trump’s philosophy of America First “semi-fascist.”
On Wednesday, 8/31, just one day before Biden’s “Soul of America” speech, the President (so-called) threatened Second Amendment advocates with F-15 strikes. This is at least the second time Biden has threatened gun owners with F-15 strikes. In June 2021, Biden said, “If you think you need to have weapons to take on the government, you need F-15s and maybe some nuclear weapons.”
Republican political operative Ryan James Girdusky noted on Twitter, “The norm used to be that politicians always attacked their adversaries but not their supporters. Hillary blew that up as a candidate but the fact that Biden is doing it as a sitting president is shocking. Literally breaking the norm.”
And the best explanation for why Biden is breaking this norm is not his hatred of Republicans as Republicans or even the Democrats' hatred of white Republicans in general, but the ancient hatred of the Roman Catholics for the Gospel of Jesus Christ and those who believe it.
American Protestants have lazily allowed people who hate us to seize the levers of power in this nation, and now we are in the unenviable position of having the resources of the nation built by our forefathers turned against us.
It was less than a month ago that Biden’s FBI raided Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate. At that time, my thought was the party of rum, Romanism, and rebellion is starting Civil War 2.0 in the same way they started Civil War 1.0 161 years ago.
Biden’s speech on Thursday strengthened this case.
It is my opinion that you will likely soon see the indictment and arrest of Donald Trump on whatever made-up charges the Department of Justice (sic) decides to bring based on whatever false evidence is presented to them by the FBI.
It seems likely to me that this arrest and indictment of Trump will come before the November elections. The Democrats have committed too much fraud – including their theft of the 2020 Presidential election – and too much theft for them to take any chance of losing the mid-term elections. They must act ruthlessly or face the real possibility of all their crimes coming to light in a Republican Congress.
The part of RR&R seems to be getting a lot of help from the RINO Republicans as well., who seem to be doing their best to throw the fall election by doing nothing and presenting their voters with no reason to head to the polls.
It is possible that the Democrats over the top rhetoric and fraud will backfire on them. But with their control of the media, the schools, the universities, and popular entertainment, they seem fully confident that they can get away with whatever they want
May the Lord’s people fervently seek his face in prayer for the good of this nation. Perhaps he will yet show us mercy and dash our enemies in pieces like a potter’s vessel.
